How Did Yanni Hufnagel Create And Grow Lemon Perfect?

Y LemonHydration and energy are essential for athletes across different games and arenas. This is the gap that Yanni Hufnagel, Lemon Perfect’s founder, and CEO, identified before launching his organic and sugar-free lemon drink.

Before this entrepreneurial journey, Hufnagel was a basketball coach and assistant coach for teams like California Golden Bears, Havard Crimson, and Havard Vanderbilt Commodores.

One of the things that drove him to open the company was seeing athletes on the field try to keep up their hydration and energy levels with unhealthy beverages. He also said that his morning routine helped bring the idea to life.

He used to start the day with a ketogenic diet and a glass of pure water, into which he would add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. He started looking for a way to deliver lemon water’s refreshing and nutritional properties to consumers without dealing with the sour taste.

He then remembered that many athletes he worked with used to drink Bai and Vitaminwater, two of the most popular enhanced water brands. He used plant-based sweeteners and organically grown lemons, unlike other high-calorie and high-sugar beverages.

This idea saw Yanni Hufnagel create the zero-sugar and low-calorie Atlanta-based Lemon Perfect. To cater to all his consumers, he has made different flavors like Blueberry Acai, Just Lemon, Peach Raspberry, Strawberry Passion Fruit, Kiwi Star Fruit, and Pineapple Coconut.

With an industry full of competition, Hufnagel needed a way to beat the competition, and he knew a lot of that depended on how he presented the product to consumers. Therefore, he worked with highly-rated graphic designers to create bottles and branding that would stand out on store shelves.

He also changed the formula from one that needed refrigeration to a shelf-stable one. That is because most stores selling it would place it in refrigerators, making it hard for clients to see. The $1.99 per bottle price has also made it a highly preferred brand.

Yanni Lemon Perfect’s uniqueness and health benefits have seen it named one of the fastest-growing enhanced beverages. It also caught Beyonce’s attention, and she took a photo in her limo in 2020 featuring one of the brand’s flavors. As expected, that caused a massive surge in the brand’s popularity and sales.

Beyonce loved it so much that she invested in the company’s Series A funding in April 2022. other investors included Trousdale Ventures, NNS Capital, and Beechwood Capital.
