Former CEO at Natixis John Hailer and His Professional History

John Hailer career in banking began with his graduation from the University of Southern California, in 1978. The business school graduate was hired as a securities clerk at Citibank and began working his way up the list, eventually winning the CEO position. John Hailer earned $27 million during his 25 year career spanning from 1999 to 2014 before retiring from the company in 2016. In addition to banking, he served as an ambassador for public service and philanthropy as well as board member for Catholic Charities of Los Angeles.

In 1979 Mr. Hailer was promoted to the position of branch manager for First American Bank, a division of Citibank. He then became head of Citibank’s European Operations in 1994, and in 1999 he became president and CEO. His 25 year tenure at Citigroup was cut short by the company’s 2014 transformation into a global bank focusing on money management, capital markets, corporate and investment banking.

John Hailer became CEO and president of Natixis US, a subsidiary of French based bank Groupe BPCE in 2014. Natixis also serves as lead underwriter for the GIP.

In addition to his banking careers, Hailer has aided the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles by serving in various positions on its boards. He is currently chairman of Catholic Charities and co-founder of Catholic Community Services.

In 2008, Mr. Hailer was named as Archbishop Jose Gomez’s Honorary Consul for Saint Denis de Paris, France. In 2012, he became a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Schools Week. That same year he joined the Board of Advisors for St. John’s Cathedral High School and in 2013 Mr. Hailer became a board member for the St. John’s School for Boys, a private school in Pasadena.

In 2014, Mr. Hailer was named to the Honored List at St. John’s Cathedral High School.
